Project Description

Location :Mauritius
Development Area: 1.3 ha
Design Style: French Colonial

The Residence is located on the north east coast of Mauritius on two kilometres of white sand beach about 50 kilometres to the east of Port Louis in the small coastal town of Belle Mare. The Residences’ beach is sheltered by a coastal reef, and provides unobstructed views to the pacific ocean for the classic tropical sunrise framed by palm trees. The Residence is considered as one of the jewels of the international hotel scene on Mauritius.

Facilities include extensive landscaped gardens along the beachfront with 2 main pools as the focus centrally located just back from the beach. The other main feature of the resort is the Planters Kids Club with playgrounds and surrounding gardens. Also set within the gardens are a number of restaurants and bars with thatched open pavilions that make the most of the tropical climate.

SCI’s role was to develop the landscape concepts through to detailed design.

The theme for The Residence draws on the traditional French colonial architecture drawing from the island’s colonial past, set within the plantations of Mauritius, with wide verandas, formal gardens, wide lawns and palms. The pools and beach front area draw from a more contemporary in style in juxtaposition to the main theme. The guests of the resort can experience the historic appeal of this unique island and the luxurious lifestyle of the formal French colonial rulers, while enjoy the modern pool and fronting beach.
